As new UK recycling regulations approach in March 2025, businesses must prepare for major shifts in waste management. Effective waste segregation is more important than ever, with an emphasis on separating dry materials, food waste, and recyclable products to meet compliance standards. At SYR, we are committed to helping businesses streamline their waste management processes while driving sustainability.
Our Lucy range of colour-coded swing bins offers a practical, hygienic solution for businesses looking to improve their recycling practices. Made from durable, one-piece moulded polypropylene, these bins are easy to clean and available in various colours to prevent cross-contamination between different waste types.
Whether you need to segregate dry recyclables, food waste, or other materials, our 50-litre bins provide a reliable, efficient solution that supports both compliance and sustainability. Best of all, our bins are Made in the UK for over 40 years, contributing to a circular economy by reducing the demand for virgin plastic materials.
Circular Economy at Work with SYR’s Lucy Range
In line with our commitment to sustainability, the Lucy range not only aids in better waste management but also makes use of recycled off-cuts. Any leftover plastic from the manufacturing process is reused to create new Lucy products, forming a full circular economy. This approach ensures that we minimise waste and help businesses align with their eco-friendly goals.
With the landfill tax set to rise by 21%, it’s time for businesses to take a proactive approach to waste management. To help, SYR offers the Switch Framework Scheme, which allows customers to return end-of-life SYR polypropylene plastics, such as buckets. These returned products are repurposed into new items within our SYR Switch range, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
The Switch Framework is a cradle-to-cradle circular economy initiative, designed to help businesses not only reduce waste but also repurpose old products, demonstrating SYR’s leadership in sustainable manufacturing. This initiative allows businesses to improve their recycling and repurposing practices, helping reduce their environmental footprint while preparing for stricter regulations.
One TC20-R Mopping System (made using recycled plastic) will reduce virgin plastic production by 92% over its expected lifetime – this equates to 9kg of virgin plastic not being manufactured for every TC20-R sold when compared to similar mopping systems.

Another key element of the upcoming regulations is the collection of plastic film, which will come into force by 31 March 2027. Businesses will need to implement systems to separate and collect this waste type. SYR is already reducing its plastic packaging to help businesses comply with this future requirement, showcasing our forward-thinking approach to sustainability. We’ve reduced the number of inner plastic bags used in over 25 mop types, which saves 185kg of plastic packaging annually.
One small change – one big difference.
As your business adapts to the new UK recycling laws, SYR is here to support you with our sustainable, colour-coded solutions, circular economy initiatives like Switch Framework, and innovative waste-reduction practices.
